Well, it looks like the 911 operator made a huge error by not empathizing with the caller so as to get her address early on, that is assuming their system doesn’t have a sourcing program from the phone number. Would have been funny to read a follow up story of a crazy cat lady being arrested for misuse of the 911 system and a cat saved from a loon.
“Okay, ma’am, just give me your address and I’ll dispatch some officers to your home to take care of your “cat’ problem. Trust me, once they arrive you won’t have to worry about seeing that cat for a long, long time, if ever again.”
But seriously, the operator should have just suggested she (or if need be, someone else with a car and license) take the cat to the local animal shelter to find a home with someone who doesn’t freak it the fuck out.
I agree. Sure, a stray cat would have some trouble getting by, especially at first… but that’s no reason to kill it outright. Give the poor thing a chance.
Some cats do survive outside alone, for a few years and in declining health. It IS cruel to abandon a domestic cat outside. The lady should have taken it to a shelter to see if they could find it a new home, not have put it to sleep.
I’m surprised the crazy cat lady knows what toilet paper is. It’s quite evident the one from my town doesn’t use toilet paper, or soap for that matter. TP’s the aisle after the cat food!
A way of saying, “You may as well be doing something else just as futile as interacting with me.”(?) I mean “Go fuck yourself” seems a vulgar (and much more satisfying) way to say it.
I guess it’s not humane enough to give it to another person. But hey, who knows? Maybe the cat’s just so used to her madness that if it were actually cared for by a person who wasn’t insane it would, itself, go insane and commit kitty suicide.
The officer ought to have told her that if she killed the cat herself she could be charged with animal abuse. I’d like to kill you myself but I’m not a killer?
Once again… I cannot fathom why people believe the police handle anything other than law enforcement issues. I am a Cleveland Police Dispatcher (Ohio,USA) and just the other day a fellow called 9-1-1 because he wanted us to take his dog to the pound and have it put down. He had the dog, muzzled is his own car, sitting in front of the animal shelter. He was ‘too afraid’ to deal with his muzzled dog.
This woman is insane!!! I have to wonder if she actually has mental problems… I hope that officer sent someone out and picked her up after asking for her address.
Hopefully someone was able to take the cat before she put it in the microwave or something. Unless she had already put her children in there. People like this definitely shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce. I can only imagine what Quality Citizens her offspring will be.
Depending on where you live and the circumstances behind the threat, it can be classified as a terroristic threat, coercion, assault (see link in my name under “United States,” about halfway down), or simply “threat to kill.”
Very definitely illegal and prosecutable – although generally there has to be a reasonable and realistic fear of the threat being carried out for it to hold water, which would probably not be the case in this situation. However, abuse of emergency services combined with abusive and threatening language to the emergency responder = big trouble, if they managed to track the cat lady down. I’d have sent out an officer halfway through the call, myself, but then I’m not a very patient or understanding person…
I imagine the answer is “no,” but I figured I’d ask anyway:
Are 911 operators not allowed to hang up any certain circumstances, in case a call actually escalates into a legitimate situation? B/w hearing this and the one with the Cheeseburger Lady, I would just hang up after a certain point!
And I will agree with the Cat Lady on one thing: I thought the operator would have the address automatically. It makes sense, in case the line goes dead or the caller suddenly can’t talk.
It’s a way of getting the caller to stay on the line longer and/or calm down, I believe… not that I work for emergency services. I did have to give my location the one time I called 911 though.
It’s a common misconception that 9-1-1 operators & dispatchers know everything about you when you call. In reality, we usually only see the name on the telephone account, phone number, and address. This works only if the phone company records are kept up to date. Also, any technology can fail. And, some jurisdictions don’t have E911 (enhanced 911, whih shows all that stuff).
As for being allowed to hang up on someone… We have our ways. But sometimes, it’s better just to give the nuts enough rope to hang themselves. Should some sort of prosecution be needed, boom, there’s all the ammo we need.
I understood the caller to be saying that she was outside the animal control facility (they have a sign on the door, they’re closed, etc) – if that’s the case, then she was either on a cell phone or a pay phone, and that information wouldn’t be of much use to the 911 operator if the lady decides to leave before the cops get there.
What!?!? I really hope they tracked that number and gave here at LEAST 30 minutes of beat down. Then held her down while the cat scratched her face. Then slapped her. Then put her in the blender.. GO FLY A KITE WITH A HOLE IN IT!
The reason the human society wanted her to call the cops is so they’d get her crazy ass locked up.
I’d take that cat in a heartbeat, sight unseen. It’s probably the only thing in the house with a measurable IQ.
And that all falls under “verbal assault”. My bet is that she did get arrested, and lmao at the operator offering to “send someone out to see you”…. uh-huh. See you in cuffs.
Most 911 systems do know the location of the place you’re calling from, so long as you aren’t on a cell phone. And even then, they can find out who owns the cell phone.
I hate to be the one to ruin all the fun, but it is obvious that she has paranoid schizophrenia and that she is going through “an episode.” The right thing to do would be to have an ambulance pick her up. In reality, I’ll bet she actually loves that cat, but her mental illness got in the way. I agree, she should not own any pets.
I agree with your last three sentences, but not so sure about paranoid schizophrenia being “obvious” in this case. My hunch was more along the lines of acute manic episode.
If it was PS, it’d be more likely that she wanted the cat put down because the government (aliens, the pope, neighbors, [insert ethnic/national group of your choice here]) were using it to spy on her and send messages about her and so forth – not because it was scared of her (and she of it). My brother is PS, and I’ve worked in the mental health field for many years so I have seen many, many, many episodes over the years… of course none of us can say, but to my mine, this definitely sounds like a break with reality, but doesn’t seem typical for PS.
In any event I hope the lady, and the cat, got the help they needed.
Okay look, it saddens me too, but can we stop saying this woman belongs in a mental health facility?
She is not psychotic, she is stupid.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that she represents a large percentage of the population of the United States. (Ranting interlude: The United States and “America” are not the same thing. America consists of two continents an makes up the entire Western Hemisphere; including Canada)
Stupid people like her are generally scared, high, or angry. She is apparently all three right now. She concerns the 911 dispatcher because she has made threats, but in no way would she be considered someone who needs a 5150. She is *shudder* terribly normal.
That shit is too funny!!
I love how she asked the operator if she thought she was a murderer or something…. ummm, bitch. YOU just called to have your cat killed….
This woman didn’t want the cat to wonder outside because it might die, but she was wanting it put to sleep! Did she think put to sleep meant that it would just take a nap? LOL. This woman is NUTS! You can tell that she didn’t pay any attention to the animal control message that said “if this is an emergency”, which mean a life threatening situation, not that you are afraid of a cat, that you have had for a long time from the sound of it! THis woman was an idiot! “Your toilet paper!”
This audio is classic. It’s from about 15 years ago in St Paul, MN. A local radio show used to play it a lot. She was one of those local crazy people that dream up excuses to harass 911 a few times a month. I think I heard she passed away a few years ago now.
He’s scared of me because I’m scared of him because he’s scared of me because I’m scared of him because he’s scared of me because I’m scared of him because he’s scared of me because I’m scared of him because he’s scared of me because I’m scared of him because he’s scared of me because I’m scared of him because he’s scared of me because I’m scared of him because he’s scared of me because I’m scared of him.
MY CAT IS SCARED BECAUSE I’M YELLING AT HIM AND BECAUSE HE’S SCARED, IT’S FREAKING ME OUT! HE’S A KILLER! ALL HELL IS GONNA BREAK LOOSE! (and i’m not cruel – i just want him to be put to sleep because he gets scared when crazy people scream in his face!) MY POOR CAT IS PETRIFIED (because of me screaming at you) AND YOU DON’T EVEN CARE! you’re…you’re… TOILET PAPER!
wow.
i think somebody forgot to take their happy pills this morning.
Maybe she is crazy, she needs help. She was trying to get help. But think of some of the people the police do help. Men fighting, they may not want the cops there, but someone else calls. Patrolling a “bad” neighborhood. A hooker being picked up by a customer. A women and man having a loud dispute, that may have every night and would never think of calling the police, even if they “should”. So many times police are called for “emergency” what makes an emergency and emergency. Suicide? Isnt that crazy?
This lady is obviously smart and sounds like someone i want to hook up with. Cat lady if you see this send your phone number please. I hate cats too. Have that cat put to sleep immediatly.
beer drinker :
This lady is obviously smart and sounds like someone i want to hook up with. Cat lady if you see this send your phone number please. I hate cats too. Have that cat put to sleep immediatly.
I’d like to put YOU asleep. You are nothing but a dog!
Regardless of any mental affliction, I do not blame the 911 operator for responding in that way.
I thought this was HILARIOUS.

Stupid? Yes. Crazy? Yes.
If you can’t laugh at crazy people, the world is just sad. We’re everywhere.
Oh my god, that poor cat! She wants to kill it because she can’t handle her emotions? Bring it to an animal shelter and let someone else adopt it. That woman is disgusting.

ha!
Wow… this type of thing makes me feel sorry for those 911 people. They always manage to be way more polite than most people would be.
Also feel sorry for the cat. The cat’s scared, so the lady wants to kill it. That just seems wrong.
(Maybe the cat’s scared because it has ESP and knows what the lady’s up to. Just a thought…)
Well, it looks like the 911 operator made a huge error by not empathizing with the caller so as to get her address early on, that is assuming their system doesn’t have a sourcing program from the phone number. Genius.
Except for that whole “that’s why she was calling the cops in the first place because the shelter was closed” part.
Not to mention terroristic threats… That’s a new one that people like to use to press charges with.
‘why don’t you go fly a kite with a hole in it’
WTF? lol
That’s actually a winner.
Why dont people understand that 911 is for CRIMES and shit.
Puttin a cat to sleep? Call a vet or something. But not 911!
Also, cats DO survive alone. Even dogs do.
Sure people could run over them but that can happen too when its NOT abandoned.
I think you may be missing the point…
This woman is CRAZY!
I don’t think there would be much to her comprehension of anything at this point.
Whoa… just.. whoa
“You’re toilet paper!”
No wonder her cat is scared.
I’m surprised the crazy cat lady knows what toilet paper is. It’s quite evident the one from my town doesn’t use toilet paper, or soap for that matter. TP’s the aisle after the cat food!
words fail….god bless america…and all who live in the land ov the free………..GET THAT CAT A LAWYER NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!
The accent actually sounds sort of Canadian. Maybe North Western U.S.
She is certainly Canadian, the wonderful city of Surrey, BC
Wisconsin or Minnesota all the way. Sounded exactly like my ex-husband’s family. Insanity and all.
U got the area right…
The last words “why don’t you fly a kite with a hole in it”. We don’t have that expression here in the UK.
We dont have that expression here in the US either o_O
…we don’t have it in America either…
I’ve heard “go fly a kite” in really old (American) movies. I’m pretty sure it’s the … um … polite? … way of saying “go fuck yourself.”
Similar to the good old “I think you should go find a rock, and chew on it.”
A way of saying, “You may as well be doing something else just as futile as interacting with me.”(?) I mean “Go fuck yourself” seems a vulgar (and much more satisfying) way to say it.
If it’s any consolation, I’ve never heard of that phrase either and I was raised here. In this same country. With that nutcase. *sigh*
We don’t have that expression here in America either… unless you are completely high on drugs that is…
wow…
“I’m not a killer!” – epic fail.
And suddenly at the end she was afraid to give her address. I’m no expert, but isn’t is assault to say to an officer, “I’d like to kill you!” ???
I’m sure the men in the white coats were already on their way there by the end of that conversation.
That poor cat, no wonder it was scared! What a freak!
wait… she wants the cat put to sleep because it’s scared of her? But, she’s not a killer and wants to do the humane thing?
this person should not be allowed to reproduce.
I guess it’s not humane enough to give it to another person. But hey, who knows? Maybe the cat’s just so used to her madness that if it were actually cared for by a person who wasn’t insane it would, itself, go insane and commit kitty suicide.
Y’know, I really don’t think the worry of this woman reproducing is a legitimate one..
But she does need serious help, and maybe a pet that can’t be scared of her. Like a goldfish.
She was obv cracked out
I think “Why don’t you go fly a kite with a hole in it?” will be my next tattoo.
WOW! I hope they rescued the cat from the crazy….
Could we have transcripts of these please?
The officer ought to have told her that if she killed the cat herself she could be charged with animal abuse. I’d like to kill you myself but I’m not a killer?
At that point she was talking to the 911 operator, not the cat.
I absolutely cannot IMAGINE why that cat is afraid of her.
Sorry you have to deal with that. :-/
….never a dull moment though, huh?
Wow! xD
I kind of want the kitty.
that poor cat!!! i couldn’t even listen to her whole insane bullshit.
Some people are just plain stupid
not to mention crazy
This woman shouldn’t have the right to own any animals in her current mental state
In all honestly I think she needs to be put in an institution
Reminds me of that gardener who is very suspicious of plants.
http://www.hulu.com/watch/16417/saturday-night-live-googly-eyes-gardener
That is one of my favorite Walken skits!
Nevermind the crazy cat lady. WTF is wrong with Christoper Walken? He’s a nut!
I hear if you put some peanut butter on your you know what the cat settles right down. Of course that wouldn’t help this lady…
If I was that cat, I’d be terrified too.
I think in this case, the humane thing is to let that cat out and hope it runs far, far away.
What a psycho.
“Right now my cat’s petrified, he’s petrified because I’m yelling at you!”
Fer frak’s sake. Fruitloop. And poor kitteh
It doesn’t matter if it’s a real officer (most 911 operators are not). Threatening to kill someone can get you arrested no matter what.
I feel sorry for that poor cat.
What crime would you be arrested for?
If I called up my local emergency services dispatcher and told her that I should put him to sleep, what crime have I committed?
What crime have you commited? Huh? Threatening to have someone ‘put to sleep’ is a threat to have them killed. That is a crime. Are you serious?
Depending on where you live and the circumstances behind the threat, it can be classified as a terroristic threat, coercion, assault (see link in my name under “United States,” about halfway down), or simply “threat to kill.”
Very definitely illegal and prosecutable – although generally there has to be a reasonable and realistic fear of the threat being carried out for it to hold water, which would probably not be the case in this situation. I’d have sent out an officer halfway through the call, myself, but then I’m not a very patient or understanding person…
Depends on the jurisdiction. Where this occurred at they don’t typically arrest for abuse of 9-1-1.
And…people scare me.
DAMN!
It’s a way of getting the caller to stay on the line longer and/or calm down, I believe… not that I work for emergency services. I did have to give my location the one time I called 911 though.

I believe she says that she called Animal Control and got a recording instructing her to call the police in the event of an emergency.
You know, like needing your cat killed.
What!?!? I really hope they tracked that number and gave here at LEAST 30 minutes of beat down. Then held her down while the cat scratched her face. Then slapped her. Then put her in the blender.. GO FLY A KITE WITH A HOLE IN IT!
I’m curious to know if there even WAS a cat.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
WIN!
me too
The reason the human society wanted her to call the cops is so they’d get her crazy ass locked up.
Hahahahaha…crazy people shouldn’t breed.
I hate to be the one to ruin all the fun, but it is obvious that she has paranoid schizophrenia and that she is going through “an episode.” The right thing to do would be to have an ambulance pick her up. I believe the medical term for her condition is “bat-shit crazy.”
I believe in this case, it’s Cat-shit crazy…
Jeez, wasn’t this lady over at the Town Hall meeting about health care the other day?
“Cuz I’m scared of him because he’s scared of me because I’m scared of him and now I’m scared ..” wtf.
Poor cat.
I’d be afraid of her too if I was her cat.
So, um, if I wanted to have the caller put to sleep, would I call the police or, say, the Ghostbusters?
Poor cat!
WOW !!! This is zootherapy that went TERRIBLY WRONG !
That poor poor cat. This woman needs some psychiatric help.

That’s sad, I hope she got the help she needed
“The cat is scared! He’s petrified!” Well, you’re trying to get him killed, idiot!
Srsly.
I really hope that cat didn’t get put to sleep! (which I’m placing my faith in SANE humanity on this one) x__x
Seriously though, I think the most humane for that crazy woman to do is let him out the back door. Probably would have sighed a breath of relief!
You!!! You’re toilet paper!!!!!
Slightly disturbed that the call lasted as long as it did. Operator should have hung up quite a while earlier…
Maybe she is crazy, she needs help. She was trying to get help. But think of some of the people the police do help. Men fighting, they may not want the cops there, but someone else calls. Patrolling a “bad” neighborhood. A hooker being picked up by a customer. Right now I’m yelling and that cat is scared of me!!! Ya, no shit you crazy bitch…
Bwhahahahahahaha! The cat is scared! Gee, I wonder why? Is it because YOU’RE INSANE? Hahahahahahaha
